Every year, I love to immerse myself in the holiday season from the beginning of December by baking shortbread and other Christmas treats with friends and family. The sweet, warm aromas of cinnamon and chocolate fill the house, inviting everyone to gather around a delicious Christmas afternoon tea.
How to create a Christmas afternoon tea
I suggest starting with a homemade hot chocolate, and serving it along with a mix of two or three different types of Christmas cookies (shortbread, etc.), sliced cake, and a few small buns. This allows you to play with different textures and helps create an array of choices. For the flavors, consider alternating warm spices (cinnamon, mixed spice, saffron) with chocolate treats and other plain baked goods.
