After all these years, I finally tried frozen yogurt! The weather has been so incredibly hot this summer in Vancouver, it’s almost surreal. I haven’t seen rain in weeks, we all wear light summer clothes from morning to night (I love that!), and eating ice cream on a regular basis is my new routine.
Of course, eating ice cream every day or almost is not super healthy (too much sugar and so on), and this is exactly when the frozen yogurt becomes a perfect option! My one year old is crazy about it, and I never feel guilty as I don’t even add sugar to the recipe, it’s simply frozen fruits and yogurt. That’s it!
A 2-ingredient recipe
Yes, with just 2 ingredients, you get a delicious frozen yogurt ready in no time. Here’s what you need to prepare frozen yogurt:
- Frozen fruits of your choice. here I used a mix of blackberries and strawberries.
- Yogurt. Use plain or Greek yogurt, unsweetened.
These are the basic ingredients for any frozen yogurt recipe, to which you can add any add-ons of your choice (see below my dedicated section about the possible variations around the recipe for more inspiration).
How to make frozen yogurt?
You won’t believe how simple it is. All you need is a food processor. Place all the ingredients of the recipe in the food processor at once, seal the lid, and process the mixture on high for a minimum of 5 minutes. In case you are tempted to stop the food processor from running earlier, keep in mind the following: the longer you process the mixture, the creamier it will be. Once your frozen yogurt is ready, pour into an airtight container and place in the freezer to firm up, usually an hour or so.
Troubleshooting
- Can I use fresh fruits? Unfortunately no. In order to get a perfectly creamy texture, you need frozen fruits to help the mixture come together perfectly. However, you can pick fresh fruits, let them ripe to your liking, then freeze them before using.
- About the food processor. I recommend a strong and large enough processor bowl to follow this recipe in the same proportions.
- Can I scale the recipe? Yes and no. In theory yes, but you need to make sure your food processor is big and strong enough in order to create larger quantities of frozen yogurt. If however you want to scale down the recipe and let’s say cut the proportions by half of what’s indicated, it is absolutely possible.
- My frozen yogurt is too hard. When serving ice cream, we tend to remove it from the freezer at the very last minute. Frozen yogurt is a little bit harder than ice cream, and as such, I recommend you remove it a good 10 minutes before serving to ensure you can scoop it out easily.
Which other flavors may I consider for frozen yogurt?
Honestly, there are so many possible variations around frozen yogurt. It seems that the sky is the limit! But to give you some inspiration, here are a few other FROZEN ingredients you could use in a frozen yogurt, either for a one ingredient flavor or a combination of flavors:
- Single ingredient frozen yogurt: mango, banana, pineapple, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, cherry, kiwi, peach.
- Ingredient combination: mango-pineapple-coconut, mixed berries and bananas.
- Other add-ins: fresh lime or lemon zest, vanilla extract or vanilla seeds, a dollop of peanut butter or any other nut butter, etc.
Turn your frozen yogurt into…
- A smoothie! Yes, a smoothie. When you remove your frozen yogurt from the freezer, you can let it thaw slowly in the refrigerator and enjoy it the next day as a smoothie for breakfast. Easy, healthy, and delicious!
- A no-bake mini-pie. Instead of pouring the frozen yogurt into a loaf pan or any other airtight container, you can create some mini pies in a muffin tin by using this nutty base, pour the frozen yogurt over, and freeze. When a little craving arrives, you have a nourishing healthy (and pretty!) little treat waiting for you in the freezer.

Ingredients
- 3 cups (450g) frozen strawberries
- 3 cups (450g) frozen blackberries
- ¾ cup (180g) plain Greek yogurt*
- 1–2 Tablespoon honey, agave or maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- In the bowl of a food processor, mix the frozen berries together with yogurt and honey (if using). Mix until creamy, exactly 5 minutes (not less).
- Serve immediately or transfer to an airtight container and freeze. Remove the frozen yogurt 10 minutes before serving to ensure it is not too hard to serve.
Notes
* I recommend full-fat Greek yogurt for best results, it’s the key to a creamy frozen yogurt. Low fat would work, but your frozen yogurt will be less creamy.

Sashi
Very tasty, but I would say its more of a sorbet than frozen yogurt. I would recommend allowing the frozen berries to sit for 15 mins before mixing in the food processor.
