Campfire s’mores are the ultimate camping experience: roasted marshmallows, melting chocolate and two pieces of graham crackers.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 12 graham crackers, broken into squares
  • 2 milk chocolate bars
  • 12 large marshmallows

Equipment needed:

  • Long metal skewers (for roasting the marshmallows)
  • Bonfire, campfire, fire pit*

Instructions

  1. Build a campfire. This can take some time depending on the supply and the weather conditions.
  2. Break each sheet of graham crackers into square halves.
  3. Place a piece of chocolate bar on top of a graham cracker square. Keep another plain graham cracker square handy (you will use it for the top).
  4. Skewer a marshmallow (or two) on a long stick or metal skewer and hold over the heat of the campfire. Toast, turning occasionally, until the marshmallow puffs and turns slightly golden brown.
  5. Place the marshmallow on top of the graham cracker with the piece of chocolate. Then, using the remaining plain graham square, squish the marshmallow, pressing down firmly to pull off the skewer.
  6. When the s’mores is assembled, hold the sandwich together between your fingers for a few seconds, until the warm marshmallow melts the chocolate, and eat while still warm and gooey! Or wrap it in between two large sheets of foil placed on the corner of the campfire to keep warm, while making the remaining ones (it will also help the chocolate to melt a little bit more).

Notes

* Indoor s’mores (s’mores in the oven), no campfire necessary. If you do not plan a camping trip, you can make s’mores in the oven. Start with preheating the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Place graham cracker squares next to each other on the baking sheet, and top each of them with a piece of chocolate bar. Repeat with as many S’mores you want to make. Top with one large marshmallow, and place the cookie sheet in the oven with the door slightly cracked. Broil for about 5 minutes or until slightly golden, staying by your oven at anytime to prevent the marshmallows from burning. When ready, remove from the oven, top with the remaining graham crackers halves and press gently like a little sandwich. Enjoy!
