This homemade basil pesto is the real deal. Prepared with fresh herbs, pine nuts and olive oil, pesto is delicious on pasta, pizzas, salad, and more!

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (70g) pine nuts, toasted
  • 2 Tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups basil leaves
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
  • ¼ cup (20g) grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Add pine nuts, garlic and lemon juice to a food processor and pulse until finely chopped. Add the basil and pulse until combined.
  2. Gradually drizzle in the olive oil while the food processor is running, and pulse until combined. Add the Parmesan cheese and pulse for a few seconds to combine. For a smoother, thinner pesto, add more olive oil.
  3. Pour into a glass jar and use to serve on pasta, pizzas, bread, salad, and more. Pesto keeps well in a sealed jar placed in the refrigerator for about a week.
