Apple clafoutis is one of the easiest apple dessert you could possibly make, yet completely irresistible and slightly addictive. It features soft and tender apples cooked in butter, and a delicious creamy custard. A classic French dessert you can make all year round.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4-5 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced into wedges
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, divided and melted
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar + 1 extra Tablespoon for cooking the apples
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract*
  • ⅔ cup (80g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¾ teaspoons (20g) cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup + 1 Tablespoon (250 ml) milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°C (180°C). Grease the bottom and sides of a 9-inch (23 cm) round pie dish or a 9×13 (23×33 cm) baking dish with butter. Set aside.
  2. Melt 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter in a large skillet, then throw in the apple wedges, 1 Tablespoon of sugar and cinnamon. Cook, stirring often, until apples are soft. Transfer to the baking dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk eggs and sugar with the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, mix flour, cornstarch and baking powder. Add to the egg mixture and combine. Now add the remaining Tablespoon melted butter, then gradually pour in the milk, whisking until combined.
  5. Pour the batter onto the apples and bake for about 35-40 minutes. Let cool slightly at room temperature before serving.

Notes

* For even more flavors, you can use vanilla seeds scraped out from a pod. Your apple clafoutis will be utterly delicious!
